Using The Top Commentator Plugin For Backlinks
I really apologize for not posting in like a week - it’s the last week of term this week so bear with me for 4 more days before I have more time.
I have noticed when browsing webmaster forums such as DigitalPoint that many people are unsure of the best way to build high quality one way links to their website or blog. now I can’t say that there is a best way, but I know of a way that is the best way for me - it is enjoyable and I gain high PR and high quality backlinks quickly from authority blogs in my niche. What makes this better? These are usually sitewide DoFollow links.
Take a look at my backlinks in Yahoo SiteExplorer (click on the image to see it in full size):

Now, I’m not here to brag but that’s a nice amount of backlinks from a 2 month old blog. And look where these links are from - huge, well respected authority blogs.
Go and take a look at some of these blogs and see what they all have in common: You will find that they all have the Top Commentator’s widget installed, with the DoFollow setting enabled.
Many bloggers see this widget and think no more about it, but when I realised the link building ability of this some time ago now I jumped right into testing it out. And guess what? It seems to be working!
Now please, after seeing this, and I repeat, PLEASE, do not go out and spam the heck out of blogs with this widget installed. It is there to pass a bit of link love to loyal readers. I find that in the blogs I like reading I gain a spot anyway because I like to connect with the blog owner. Post valuable comments to the blog that are of a decent length, and you will find that you actually like the blog more as well.

I wrote a Blog on LinkMoney dot org a few days ago about the plugins; CommentLUV, KeywordLUV, Lucy’s Linky Love. and Show top Commentators.
Lucy’s allows you to set the number of comments from each commentator before link juice is allowed. I set mine to a low number for now and it will stay there unless I get hammered with spam links, then i can increase it.

10,000+ links in 2 months is pretty impressive! I only recently caught on to this strategy myself and I’ve already seen a difference in traffic and backlinks.
I see you’re also using CommentLuv, that should help encourage reader participation even more.

Wow that’s fantastic amount of backlinks. Do you also use other methods like article marketing or was that increase mainly from comments. I’ll install it soon - how do you make sure it’s nofollow.

I don’t do article marketing
To make it nofollow just install the widget and then click edit, and choose your options/settings from there.
Most have it DoFollow though
Whoa! 2 months and you have over 10,000 inlinks??? Are most of those through commenting on other people’s sites? Ah, I think I get it, Top Commentator links are sitewide (because it’s in the sidebar) and it counts every single page as an inlink. Ergo, if you make top commentator on a site with 300 pages, it counts as 300 inlinks. Correct?

So like some huge sites with thousands of pages I get all of the backlinks (assuming all pages get crawled)

and true, if people begin to spam these blogs, then they may decide to ditch the plugin, which would be unfortunate.

Seems like now everybody is doing it (commenting on different blogs and such). I have really seen an improve of my traffic, as well as backlinks generated by commenting. And I think this is beneficial both for the blog owner(building a community, receiving feedback) and for the commentator.
Due to this plugin , webmasters will bookmark your sites.

Don’t go out and spam, LOL! Sad to say but the owners won’t allows us to spam. I am a programmer and could dynamically pop links all over the place, however we are opting to do them one at a time and to try and make a contribution to the places we are leaving post.
