Site Flipping: How Much Can You Really Make?

By Simon Under Website Flipping

Recently I have read a lot of blogs covering the topic of flipping websites for a profit. For those of you that don’t know what it is, site flipping is creating small content sites or blogs and then selling them off fairly quickly for a good profit.

Many claim that they make thousands each month flipping websites, while other, like TheNetFool, think that it isn’t possible that anyone would buy a completely new site for more than $20. Personally, I think new sites if designed well with unique content should sell for about $80 each, and therefore site flipping can be quite profitable.
Think of this:
- Build 1 website a day
- Sell each website for $80
In one month, the profits from website flipping minus a few expenses such as domain names

Site Flipping: What Can You Earn?

and listing fees equate to around $2,000 – not bad for 2-3 hours work a day.

I myself have been considering flipping sites, but my time is simply too limited. However, I am gaining enjoyment from a challenge I am closely watching between Bryan over at SiteFlipU and ImWithJoe. ImWithJoe sent Bryan an email proposing a challenge, that he wouldn’t be able to sell 5 one day old blogs for $1,000 all up. Bryan accepted, and the challenge begun.

You can read the full story at SiteFlipU and follow it, because I myself can’t wait to see the outcome – it may just inspire me to start flipping.

What I wanted to say in this post was how much a working person could actually make flipping sites each month. The time on their hands is limited, and therefore I would say that they would be able to produce 2 good quality websites a week comfortable. That equates to just over $600 a month, not bad for a few hours work each week.

In approximately 5 weeks, check back, because I will be off school then and will be able to focus more time on creating websites, and will be setting myself a challenge to make 1 site a day for 10 days in an attempt to earn $1,000 from them.

Cool man, glad you’re watching the contest. Though, it was actually between thenetfool and siteflipu, I just instigated it a little bit :)

Bryan has skills and I just wanted to bring more attention to the situation. If you don’t know already, he sold one of the sites for 400 bucks! lol….great stuff to learn, especially since he does this stuff all the time and laid out his plans for this one so we could see them.

Yep, sorry, I realise that now – is it true they are going to do the contest again with a $5000 prize?
I agree, Bryan has all of the skills necessary to win – I am heading over to sitepoint now. I think he’s gonna easily make it, and it’s great that we all can see exactly how he does it
I really enjoy reading your blog and Bryan’s – will check back soon

Thanks for the great information. I really like to try blog flipping myself, but the problem with me is that I am too lazy to even manage two blogs :(

The market will soon be oversupplied with these cheap blogs and the profitability will decrease likewise.

This has caught my eye a lot lately in the ecommerce world…people flipping retail sites for a profit. I think it takes some time though to build it up, but someone with good experience in SEM could probably do it quicker if they’d be willing to turn over the ad accounts with them.

Good luck with your site flipping when you have time to do it. I flip 2 websites so far and profited $100 on each of them. I am selling another right now should profit $200 from this one. :)

I’ve been looking into site-flipping too (and domain-flipping) and was following Big Ben Patton’s and Bryan’s journey. It’s something I’m keen on doing as I like the idea of rejuvenating something and selling it on without the long-term comittment.

I’m not sure I’d have the patience to build a site a day, but I will follow your attempt closely (and also wish you all the best with it).

take care…

So these are small content websites…. How many pages do you normally create? Do you have an example of these sites?

I usually flip websites with around 10 pages that have one article per page – however, I would say anything above 8 pages will sell.
