A few weeks ago I taught myself how to code HTML and CSS, and having been using WordPress for quite some time now I have a good understanding of how it works. The reason why I learnt coding is so that I could make my own WordPress theme to give away to everyone. Over the last week I have spent hours trying to get it right, and without further ado I present to you my very own Speciality WordPress theme:
Some of it’s features:
- A cool looking unordered list
- 3 column widgetized footer
- 3 boxes up the top for content and features you want to have visibility
- Simplicity
Enjoy, and tell me what you think of my first effort – I should have another one done shortly, which will be a more magazine style theme.

@ Ben – To make the basic layout it took me a few hours, and then to make the small detail customizations also took me a few hours

Hey Simon,
Looks pretty good. I’m trying it on a new site, http://www.free-online-contest.com but have some glitches.
The footer does not show up, I added one text widget for CommentLUV which seems to break the width, and I changed the Hostgator 468 in the header to Bluehost, which worked ok but then for some reason one of the 125 group of four ads went away, but I didn’t touch that part yet.
I like the demo style though and hope we can get it working, otherwise I’ll have to try some other theme.

That is really good for your first effort. I much prefer three column themes though so your two thirds of the way there 
BTW your commentluv is screwed as it’s picking up your post instead of the commentators.

Good for you for teaching yourself how to code! I started off like yourself a few years back and leaning this stuff for yourself will save you money and let you experiment with things you would like to try without having to rely on others.

For someone with no prior experience in coding, what you have done is not an easy feat. Great job, buddy. If there is one thing that I ‘dislike’ from it is the sidebar headings which of course, can be easily tweaked. That’s my honest opinion.

Thumbs up Simon, the more you know about how the web work the better off you will be. I started coding in 1999, and my support staff does most of it now just so i can make sure other things work.
